DERMAPLANING
Bedford Skincare Clinic offers a specialty facial utilizing a technique called Dermaplaning where the outermost layer of dead skin cells is removed, along with the facial hair, that clog the pores and cause congestion of the skin.
The procedure aims to remove fine wrinkles and deep acne scarring, as well as make the skin’s surface look smooth, giving you a more youthful and radiant appearance. It can also help prepare the skin for further treatments including peels and allows for deep penetration of skincare products. This procedure doesn’t require any downtime for recovery, which makes it extremely convenient.
LEVEL 1- THE ILLUMINIZE PEEL
The Illuminize Peel is the gentlest of the SkinMedica peels. As you might expect, this is the one for first-time chemical peel patients or those seeking a gentle superficial peel. It is utilized for mild skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, damage from the sun, and pigment irregularities.
This is the perfect peel if you have an upcoming event or just want to see the look of your more youthful skin. The Illuminize Peel is designed to create the brightening, tightening glow you want with no downtime and no visible peeling. It is gentle enough to be repeated every 2 weeks.
LEVEL 2 – THE VITALIZE PEEL
This Vitalize Peel is not just the middle peel in SkinMedica’s line but also the most popular, producing predictable and noticeable results for all skin types.
It is approved for a range of patients with mild to moderate skin conditions including fine lines and wrinkles, damage from the sun, acne, acne scarring, and melasma. Those who have the Vitalize Peel frequently experience mild to moderate peeling approximately two days following their procedure. It typically lasts no more than 2-3 days.
You can repeat the Vitalize Peel every 3-4 weeks.
LEVEL 3 – THE REJUVENIZE PEEL
The Rejuvenize Peel is the deepest peel of the SkinMedica line. It has the power to penetrate into the epidermis with minimal irritation for significant results. This treatment is indicated for patients who have more moderate to severe skin conditions, including fine lines and wrinkles, damage from the sun, acne, acne scarring, and melasma.
As you would expect, the recovery time is slightly longer here. Patients having the Rejuvenize Peel typically experience moderate peeling approximately two days after the procedure and lasting up to 5 days. You can repeat the Rejuvenize Peel every 4-6 weeks.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A DERMAPLANING TREATMENT
Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. This treatment claims to remove deep scarring from acne and uneven pockmarks on your skin. It’s also used to remove “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face.
Dermaplaning can be used for any skin type and anyone with:
-
acne scars
-
dull skin
-
dry skin
-
sun-damaged skin
-
fine wrinkles
CHEMICAL PEELS
A chemical peel, officially named “chemexfoliation” or known as “derma peeling” is a medical skincare treatment that puts science to work for you. It is one of the least invasive ways you can improve the appearance of your skin. In this procedure, an acidic solution is applied to remove the outermost layer of your skin and stimulate the production of new skin cells. The strength of acids used in a chemical peel determines the depth of this healthy exfoliation experience for you.
ARE CHEMICAL PEELS FOR YOU?
Your epidermal skin cells are constantly changing. They are continually transitioning from the bottom of the epidermal layer to the skin surface as the cells lose moisture and slowly begin to die off. Depending on unique factors such as your age and the condition of your skin the cycle of this process takes approximately 28-38 days.
If your skin is wrinkled, spotted, scarred, or uneven in tone (including acne and sun exposure) this may be just the ticket for the texture you’re looking for. You can also use them to improve the skin on your neck and hands to provide much-needed relief for a number of skin conditions.
HOW ARE CHEMICAL PEELS ADMINISTERED?
Donna Sollima, R.N. and Bedford Skincare Clinic primarily use SkinMedica Chemical Peels. SkinMedica is the California company founded by Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick of La Jolla, CA, a world-renowned dermatologist and innovator in the use of lasers in skin rejuvenation. Donna prefers SkinMedica’s aesthetic product line which is based on the science of the skin’s own healing abilities to counteract time.
SkinMedica Chemical Peels are recommended to be done in a series of 3 to 6 applications, coming in 3 levels. Each varies in the amount of exfoliation they produce and slightly varies in recovery time.
